Q & A From Pensions Webinar on Feb 17, 2026

  • Does it work against you to go part time ahead of retirement?

Decreasing your hours will mean a reduction in your pensionable service, which will impact your pension benefit. We recommend using the personalized pension estimator tool in your My Account to help see the impact of this scenario on your pension benefit.

  • How many days/month do you have to work to qualify for a pensionable month if started working prior to 2022?

All regular time worked for a plan employer before and after 2022 should be pensionable. We recommend reviewing your service and salary summary in your My Account to see a record of your pensionable service earned over your history of employment with all Municipal Pension Plan employers.

  • I work 2 jobs, both municipal pension plan. Can I retire from 1 job, continue the other job, yet not collect MPP until I retire from the second job?

Yes. You will not be eligible to collect your pension benefit from the Municipal Pension Plan until you terminate any and all employment with your Municipal Pension Plan employer(s).

  • How many hours/days do you need to work in a month to count as a pensionable month? For example: Admin assistants are considered 10 month employees however, they work into July and return to work in August.

Pensionable time is calculated based on the actual number of hours worked. So if someone works for 5 days out of a possible 20 working days in a month, then they would earn credit for 0.25 months of pensionable service for that month.

  • How much do you pay for health plan for single vs couple?

Retirement Health Coverage premiums can be found here on our website.

We hope this helps! For any further questions or clarification, please contact the Municipal Pensions office directly via Message Centre in My Account, or via the Member Service Centre. Our contact information and hours of operation can be found here.
